As of July 1, 2008 the following states and commonwealth have passed and enacted Smokefree Air Act laws to prohibit smoking in workplaces, restaurants, and bars or any combination of the three.
States/commonwealths with smoke-free laws that cover restaurants and bars:


 










States with smoke-free laws for restaurants only:

Florida
Idaho
Louisiana
Nevada


The following state laws have been passed by legislature and signed by governor but are not yet in effect:

*Montana enacted a 100% smokefree bar law, which is scheduled to go into effect October 1, 2009.

Pennsylvania enacted a 100% smokefree workplace law, which is scheduled to go into effect September 11, 2008.

Texas is working to introduce legislation in 2009 to join in becoming a smoke free state.
